I once worked at welding factory and steel mill. I was the saw operator and one day my saw broke. The high pressure hydraulic hose had sprung a leak.
I was used to fixing my saw because it broke pretty often. But I had never seen this happen before. Well when I told my foreman about the problem he said “just place some duck tape on it”
Well I was not very mechanical and had no idea about hydraulic pressure hoses, but happened to be very good with duck tape. So being a good obedient worker I shut my saw down, got my best duck tape out and did a beautiful job taping up the hole.
When I turned my saw back on I immediately got sprayed with hydraulic oil which busted through by gorgeous duck tape job.
Soaking wet with oil and seriously wondering what went wrong I went into the break room and told my foreman (in front of the other guys) that the duck tape didn’t work. He looked at me and bursted into laughter and asked if I really duck taped the pressure hose. “Yeah you told me to”
“I was only kidding duck tape won’t fix that leak” I said “Oh, gee thanks”
Everyone shook their head in laughter. It was terribly embarrassing.
